i think i'm going to be the member of congress, the freshman living close to congress. i've lived my whole life either in maryland or washington d.c. i know this area well. i've offered to give tours to my new colleagues or help advise them on wolves or where to go and so on. but my parents have been a profound influence in my life. my dad worked for president kennedy. he's a political philosopher. he read a book called liberalism, the genius of american ideals and he's been a great progressive influence there. my dad said when i was a kid of a kid of one's guide to impulses. one is to fly like a bird in the other is to stand like a tree. i always thought of myself as a true person. i never moved away from home. i've traveled abroad, lived in france for different parts of africa and europe, but this is the place that i love and am very moved that the voters made the congressional district which is not just montgomery county has sent me here is the representative. it's a great title ii represent people's needs and their interests and values. and my mom was a great writer
