I consider this pieces more like a score or sound additive to video derivatives rather than stand-alone compositions. Me and my friend from studio also did a digital performance in May of 2014 in which I use similar technique for producing sound - by stretching samples in several layers and play with filters and my friend did vj-ing over it. This performance was seen by not more than 20 people in total but was really fun to play it live in gallery.

This album is a total labour of love. I have been fascinated with film ever since I was a boy, when I used to project 8mm silent horror and science fiction classics courtesy of Castle Films to my friends in the basement of our house in Syracuse NY (a mere nickel would gain you admission). And I quickly grew to love film music scores – and the way they can comment on and enhance the experience of viewing a classic film. A good film theme can stick in your mind indelibly, like the best pop...

Recorded at the old Roulette space in SoHo on April 10th, 2009 this concert was not only the premiere of "Under a Blue Grey Sky" it was also, to date, the only full performance of the piece.  Originally commissioned by Roulette with a grant from the Jerome Foundation I spent 6 months or so preparing the piece. I wrote the music specifically for the four string players heard here, with a lot of attention paid to writing parts which I felt they would gladly take ownership of.  The...

from test tube records : This small EP is apparently influenced by old theatre projections of silent movies from the 20's and 30's. The quirky programmings and out-of-line samples make up for a very curious and cinematographical, while interesting, release.»

We have a fantastic and much-anticipated new release available today from two of our favorite solo artists - Aidan Baker and Benjamin Fleury-Steiner - collaborating here for 'Second Week of the Second Month.' All the sounds in these four tracks are composed entirely from the electric guitar and it's amazing what these two artists can get out of a single sound source. - Internet Archive

Jozef Van Wissem's favorite compositional device is the palindrome. The Dutch-born, Brooklyn-based lutenist plays pieces forward, then backward, creating music that is potentially without beginning or end. Although this strategy is rooted in 17th century compositional practice, it still serves his agenda of rescuing his archaic instrument from history's dustbin. His use of mirror-image structures is as informed by Lacanian psychoanalysis as by centuries-old repertoire. A former guitarist with a...

In between high profile releases on Narnack and Tomlab, Thee Oh Sees released some lower-profile but still excellent releases, like the Peanut Butter Oven 12'' EP . It's not entirely clear what happened to the 300 or so physical copies of this 12''. It was released on Chris Johanson 's Awesome Vistas label (the same label that originally released Sic Alps' Description of the Harbor ). I think it's officially sold-out, but you can try asking Thee band at one of their shows. In the meantime,...

“Ornitorrinco Voador” means Flying Platypus in Portuguese. The platypus, this exotic animal, is one more of nature’s fine jokes living under the Australian waters. Visually, it appears to be some kind of weasel with duck feet, a beak and a beaver tail. It also has poisonous spurs and lays eggs. Although it may seem like just another cheap sci-fi creature, it's actually well adapted to its environment. Facing no danger of extinction, it’s a prime example of a world where even the most...

MWE put a modern and eclectic twist on Turkish and Balkan folk music. As a six member acoustic wind ensemble, MWE plays traditional songs with the rarely paired clarinet and the double-reeded zurna.  Add three clarinets, some dumbek, some riqq, and a Davul, a shoulder slung marching drum, and you’re about the closest to heavy metal you can get without amplification.  Their shows are loud, wild and raucous affairs known for drawing entire audiences on their feet in one song or less.  Often...

Music is in many ways a time experience. In many cases also a time indication. One use to say listening to a song takes you back in time, or in some cases, to the future. And then of course a musician is also in a creative process. Some prefer to improvise or work impulsive, others make slow decisions and let the music evolve in a mature manner. With Monopole's long, thirty three minutes track: complex industrialism militarily, you may wonder if it's an album, an ep or a mini album? Does it...

Chan Wai Fat composed this original soundtrack for the play CHILDREN OF THE SOUL MOUNTAIN (LING SHAN) inspired by the daoist pilgrimage in Gao Xingjian 's Nobel winning novel SOUL MOUNTAIN (LING SHAN) . Composer Chan Wai Fat visited the minority tribes along part of the Ling Shan path, resulting a re-interpretation of two traditional folk songs and seven new compositions with a mix of native recordings. This album is a selection of songs from the play, sung by elderly blind folk singer Po...

Oh Sweet Margarita of Cascia, Patron Saint of Lost Causes, we beseech thee! Make the world safe for instrumental music once again! Is there no room for swank little numbers uncluttered by the human voice? Time was when the radio waves were littered with songs that eschewed the crutch of vocals: Tequila, Sleepwalk, Popcorn, Green Onions, The Rumble, Walk — Don’t Run . Hell, even the themes to "The Rockford Files" and "Taxi" cracked the pop charts. Why then? Why NOT now?...

Produced in part by Greg Cartwright of Reigning Sound (who is also the guitarist on these recordings) it gives props to the lost stars and misfits of soul's glory days. Possessing a vocal powerhouse at the midpoint between the nasty-girl romance of Ronnie Spector and the "don't EVEN mess with me" growl of Tina Turner, the Detroit Cobras know how to uphold their rep as THE TOP-SHELF ROCK AND SOUL BAND; a thrashy, sexy powerhouse that...
