representative frank pallone of new jersey, the energy and commerce committee chair delivered the democratic greek -- weekly address. he wanted a national covid-19 testing program and the federal response to the coronavirus pandemic. hello, i am: congressman frank pallone from new jersey. the week, our nation mourns loss of 100,000 americans to coronavirus. our nation continues to grieve lost ones from a distance. it is difficult to comprehend this loss. it's a reminder we must come together to combat the terrible virus to save lives and protect communities in the weeks and months ahead. this national emergency requires every aspect of government to work together. we must reduce the spread of the virus so we can reopen our than 40and get more

million americans, who lost their jobs as a result of this pandemic, back to work. the only way we can do this is through a coordinated strategy. with testing and invest resourcing and contact tracing, surveillance and containment. we cannot fight the pandemic if we don't know who has it and where it's being spread. that requires a national strategy and response. president and his administration failed to give the leadership necessary to guide our nation through this economic crisis. we started -- instead of showing leadership, the trump is forcing states to find their own ways out of this pandemic. the president has refused to develop and implement a national testing program. months we have been promised millions of tests were around the corner, and that everyone who wanted a test could get one

bettersting is getting but public health experts continue to warn that -- and the failure of national leadership is competing against each other to get tests to administer tests from the private marker -- market. we cannot allow the trump administration's failures to persist. that's why house democrats made the heroes act. this continues the ongoing commitment to provide health care resources and support needed to combat the coronavirus crisis. and testing by finally requiring the trump administration to the coordinated strategy through testing, contact tracing and surveillance. they could include clear benchmarks and timelines and they would be forced to publicly report metrics. these requirements are critical to bring transparency to our

nation. it will allow us to see that the trump administration is for filling our promises. it would provide up to $75 billion to go to testing, contact tracing and containment. it provides additional funding rather than high behind numbers of covid-19 cases. and areas experiencing disparity. this includes low income, the uninsured, community's of color, people with disabilities and other on -- underserved communities. it builds on the progress we have made. it lays the foundation we need to ease social distancing and face the reopening of the economy. it's time for the senate to act. senate majority leader mcconnell continues to delay and obstruct, and this cannot continue. one and 100,000 american said we must collectively find solutions
